Tyler Patten, APRN, PMHNP

Tyler Patten is a board-certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Affordable Psych, a fully virtual, cash-pay mental health practice focused on accessible and compassionate care. His journey into the medical field began early—he’s always known he wanted to help people heal. While still in high school, a psychology class sparked a deep interest that led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, followed by a second degree in Nursing. Becoming a PMHNP allowed him to blend both passions and support individuals in their most vulnerable moments, guiding them back toward light and hope.

Tyler brings not just clinical knowledge, but lived experience. While in nursing school, working full time with a growing family, he experienced anxiety and depression firsthand. His path to healing—through honest conversations with his doctor and therapist, and finding the right medication—deeply shaped his commitment to a patient-centered approach. Today, he prioritizes building the kind of therapeutic relationships that were so vital in his own healing.

He has a special passion for treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and ADHD. Seeing the transformative impact of medications and lifestyle shifts in these areas is deeply rewarding to him. Tyler also believes mental health care should be affordable and efficient, and he leverages technology to reduce overhead and pass those savings on to patients—making care more accessible without sacrificing quality.

Outside of work, Tyler is a proud husband and father of five. His dream is to one day sail across the Pacific Ocean with his family. He’s recently rediscovered a love of rock climbing and makes time for outdoor adventures like backpacking, camping, and hiking—activities that recharge his spirit and keep him grounded.

Tyler is honest about how long it took him to prioritize self-care, and that perspective helps him connect authentically with others who are struggling. “Mental health isn’t logical,” he often tells his patients, “you can’t just think your way out of it.” Therapy and medication are tools—not crutches—that help free you to live the life you want.”
